Though Think Bee! has long been traveling the world in search of materials and fabrics, it wasn’t until 2013 that we entered the relatively new world of denim. We’ve been working for a few years to develop our own original denim, which was originally created as a material for work wear. Because of this industrial reputation, Think Bee! faced many hurdles in turning the material into wallets and bags, as well as in recreating designs with texture and delicacy.
In addition to weaving research, we also worked tirelessly to perfect the seemingly basic color. Because subtle changes in the color strength can make decorations on the fabric look completely different, we dyed and washed the material over and over (to decolorize) at the prototype stage, all in pursuit of a color that struck the perfect balance between material and decoration. The Think Blue! brand also uses one of Think Bee!’s biggest strengths, its skill with color, to consider all options before finding the perfect materials for decorations and handles.
Think Blue! takes great care at each stage of all process, from design and weaving through washing and processing. To put our ideas into tangible items, and enhance our Made-in-Japan image, we chose the world-renowned Okayama denim. Think Bee! always finds a way to incorporate a spirit of fun in its items, from continued planning and development to evolving colors such as gray and pink.
